I offer weekly violin lessons for beginning to advanced students interested in finding joyful and embodied relationships through sound. (Also, if you're excited to explore composition, improvisation, visual art, conducting, or any combination, let me know-- in-between-spaces are my jam!).
Weekly private sessions are coupled with monthly celebratory gatherings for all participants (and friends). During each monthly gathering, we will share things that have brought us joy in our musical or non-musical lives, and co-create sonic meditation experiences in the beautiful tradition of Pauline Oliveros.
I'm a passionate teacher. My teaching style is a love-letter to my own teachers, including Harumi Rhodes, Matana Roberts, and Claire Chase, who taught me that rigor can be joyful and loving. I have trained in Western Classical and contemporary music at Indiana University (MM) and the University of Colorado at Boulder (DMA), and am equally at home as an experimental improviser, a Baroque violinist, or falling off the deep end into a Romantic sonata.
I love working with preteen, teen, and adult students, and am equally happy to be a companion for your first explorations of the violin (at any age) or to accompany you on your journey back into a lifetime of playing (no matter how dusty that violin case might be).
